Aquatic animals are a diverse polyphyletic group based purely on the natural environments they inhabit, and many morphological and behavioral similarities among them are the result of convergent evolution.
However, advancements in neuroscience, animal behavior studies, and ethical philosophy are painting a dramatically different picture. The question of whether do aquatic animals have feelings? is no longer a philosophical musing but a subject of rigorous scientific investigation.
This Topical Collection focuses on the basic behaviors of aquatic animals, intraspecific and interspecific interactions between aquatic animals, and how abiotic factors affect aquatic animals. We hope these studies could explore the behavioral mechanisms and their ecological effects at the individual and group level.

The revitalized interest in marine life and aquatic animals has brought with it special opportunities for the added participation by the specialties of comparative and experimental psychology.
Aquatic behavior describes how animals live, move, feed, reproduce, and communicate in water environments, from shallow ponds to the open ocean. Understanding aquatic behavior is essential because water imposes different physical and sensory constraints than air, shaping body forms, feeding strategies, and social systems in wildlife.
Aquatic behavioral ecology is an important branch of animal behavioral ecology that can be of great sig-nificance for understanding the behavioral mechanisms of aquatic animals, guiding fisheries production, and protecting endangered aquatic animals. In recent years, with the emergence of new research techniques and methods, the behavioral ecology of aquatic animals has developed rapidly in a ...
